As the student newspaper of the Cranbrook Upper School, the Crane-Clarion reports on events in and outside Cranbrook of relevance to our students, faculty, parents, and alums. The Crane-Clarion was established in 1927 and is published six times a year, including a special Awards Issue each June that wraps up the year and announces the awards of our students and the college choices of our seniors.

Hi I'm trying to find out what the current situation is like at Cranbrook School, Kent. There seems to be lots of rumours about funding shortages and redundancies. There is also talk of creative subjects being scrapped. And I recently read in the Kent Courier that the school's budget has been cut to 30 per cent of what is was in 2010.

Benenden School is one of the leading boarding schools in the UK, offering girls aged 11 to 18 A Complete Education and our unique Benenden Boarding model. Founded in 1923, we are located in a beautiful 250-acre countryside setting in Kent, the South East of England. There are 550 girls in the school, with approximately 190 of those in the Sixth Form.

Open mornings. We hold a number of Open Mornings throughout the year which give a general introduction to the school. Alternatively, you might like an individual family visit which includes a tour of the campus, a meeting with the Director of Admissions or the Head of Sixth Form Admissions and, if appropriate, a visit to a boarding house.

Free School Meals. This shows whether a pupil's family have claimed eligibility for free school meals as reported in the annual spring school census. Parents are able to claim free school meals if they receive a qualifying benefit. This does not show pupils who actually received free school meals but those who are eligible to receive them.

Fun fact: I wrote this essay the summer before the senior year before I had even decided to apply to Stanford. Having lived at boarding school for the past four years, I thought this would be a great essay to write for fun. Instead of writing dear future roommate, I actually wrote out her name and envisioned my essay as a letter to her.
